The National Educational Testing and Research Center (NETRC) recently awarded the Bagong Tubig Elementary School in Tagaytay City as the TOP Public School for earning the Highest Mean Percentage Score of 93% for Cluster 6 in the 2009 National Achievement Test for Grade 6.
In a simple ceremony held at the SEAMEO Innotech Regional Center, Dr. Elenita Alcantara, Tagaytay City DepEd District Supervisor received the award from Sec Jesli Lapus and Dir Nelia V. Benito of the NETRC.
Bagong Tubig Elementary School is located in a remote barangay in Tagaytay City and can only be reached by an hour scenic walk alongside steep ravines, through a horseride for 30 minutes or by a 20 minute motorcycle ride for a fare of P100/passenger on different routes.
The result of the National Test, according to Mayor Bambol “only proves that students can do extremely well in an environment of simplicity where they can concentrate and focus on their studies even in the absence of the most modern facilities.” Overwhelmed by this recent development, Tagaytay City Mayor Abraham “Bambol” N. Tolentino, pledged continuous support and to provide Tagaytay Public Schools of conducive learning environment through the construction of modern buildings, regular health education and visitation, free school uniforms and supplies, provision of books and other school facilities which will help students excel.
Currently, a new road en route Brgy. Bagong Tubig, which is scheduled to be completed next year is being constructed from the funds of Sen. Miriam Defensor-Santiago.
Awed by the rare feat accomplished by the pupils who made the Bagong Tubig Elementary School the Top Public School in the country, Mayor Bambol Tolentino treated them into a day full of fun and learning experiences.
Mayor Bambol met the pupils in a hearty breakfast at one of the fastfood restaurants in Tagaytay after fetching them at Bagong Tubig and congratulated everyone for a job well done.
Accompanied by Engr. Emma U. Pello, CPDC, they proceeded to Museo Pambata to give them an interactive learning experience of what they can only hear and learn in school. A fun time was spent in the Manila Ocean Park and the Mall of Asia.
In appreciation to this gesture of Mayor Bambol, John Patrick Mensigos, a pupil of Bagong Tubig promised “to make it good in his studies.” He thanked the good Mayor and said that “they will forever take pleasure with the importance given to them.”
